This past Saturday April 3rd the Cabela's King Kat Tournament Trail held a qualifying event on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway At Columbus, Mississippi. These anglers traveling from 11 different states were met head on with adverse weather conditions with the take off held up until 7:00AM due to high winds and lightening. These anglers were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2010 Cabela''s King Kat Classic which will be held here at Columbus, Mississippi November 12th and 13th.
Taking first place was the team of Joey Pounders of Columbus, Mississippi and Joshua Pounders of Caledonia, Mississippi weighing in 59.55 pounds and earning $2,500.00. Joey and Joshua were fishing 5 miles below the Columbus dam using shad, both cut and alive in 13-15 feet of water.
In second place was the Hamilton, Mississippi team of Lewis Prestage SR and Lewis Prestage JR with a weight of 24.55 pounds and earning $1,200.00. The Prestage team was fishing south of the Columbus dam targeting holes along the bank catching only 3 fish using shad.
Third place went to Donald Moore III of Louisiana, Missouri and Brad Pruett of Pleasant Hill, Illinois weighing in 16.65 pounds and earning $500.00. Donald and Brad were fishing in 30-35 feet of water on Columbus Lake using cut and live shad.
Taking fourth place was Richard Woodruff of Russellville, Alabama and Lance Whitaker of Arab, Alabama with a weight of 14.95 pounds and earning $300.00. Richard and Lance were fishing in 5-15 feet of water using all live bait below the Columbus dam.
