Jamie Moore and Daniel Haley Win Crappie USA at KY Lake

March 13th Crappie USA held a qualifying event at Paris Landing State Park Marina on Kentucky Lake. Over 200 anglers from 11 different states were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela's Crappie USA Classic to be held this Fall on the Pickwick/Wilson Lakes in Sheffield, Alabama. Even with the rough conditions these anglers were able to bring in over 15 fish in the 2 pound plus range and 26 teams weighing in over 10 pound at the end of the day. In all 20 teams took home a check for a hard day of fishing on Kentucky Lake.

Semi-Pro Division Results

Taking first place was the team of Jamie Moore of Crockett Mills, Tennessee and of Friendship, Tennessee with a total weight of 12.59 pounds and earning $2,000.00. Jamie and Daniel were vertical jigging in 7 feet of water in Bass Bay on Kentucky Lake using chartreuse jigs and catching over 70 fish throughout the day.

Second place went to the 3 person team of Steve Ferguson of Puryear, Tennessee and Joey & Levi Briggs of Dexter, Kentucky with a weight of 11.95 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Steve, Joey and Levi were fishing Blood River using Southern Pro Shad Stingers catching over 50 fish in 10-18 feet of water.

In third place was Shane Moore of Milan, Tennessee and John Eubanks of Trenton, Tennessee with a weight of 11.68 and earning $750.00. Shane and John were slow trolling using a variety of colors of jigs in 5-7 feet of water.

Harold Maddox and Brian Oldham of Mt Juliet, Tennessee took fourth place with a weight of 11.46 pounds and earning $550.00. Harold and Brian captured over 80 fish in 1-4 feet of water using yellow and chartreuse Crappie Magnet jigs in the Big Sandy area. The team reported that 90% of them were black Crappie.

Fifth place went to Mark Norsworthy of Mayfield, Kentucky and James Stovall of Wingo, Kentucky with a weight of 10.93 pounds and earning $400.00. Mark and James were slow trolling in 12-14 feet of water in the Blood River area catching over 40 fish using silver homemade jigs.

Amateur Division Results

In first place in the amateur division was the Clarksville, Tennessee team of James and Vickie Harris with a total weight of 12.2 pounds and earning $1,500.00. James and Vickie were fishing Leatherwood Bay using chartreuse jigs in 3 feet of water catching over 60 fish throughout the day.

Second place went to Glen Woodard of White Bluff, Tennessee and Britt Smith of Fairview, Tennessee weighing in 11.93 pounds and earning $800.00. Glen and Britt fished the Waverly area using white and chartreuse Southern Pro jigs and catching over 45 keeper size fish in 10-18 feet of water.

Taking third place was the Trezvant, Tennessee team of Mark Arnold and Billy Arnold weighing in 11.88 pounds and earning $600.00. Mark and Billy were fishing 12 feet deep in Crooked Creek using glow/chartreuse tube jigs catching over 60 fish during the day of competition.

In fourth was the St. Louis, Missouri team of Steve and Daniel Gentz with a total weight of 11.87 pounds and earning $400.00. Steve and Daniel were using red and chartreuse Southern Pro fishing 12 feet deep in Blood River and catching over 40 fish throughout the day.

Fifth place went to the Murray, Kentucky team of Mason Milby and Ashley Adams with a weight of 11.55 pounds and earning $300.00. Mason and Ashley were using red/chartreuse Southern Pro jigs in 2-3 feet of water in Blood River catching over 40 fish throughout the day.

Big Fish Award

Taking big fish of the event was the team of Amy Lawler of Trenton, Tennessee and Dale Clark of Lavinia, Tennessee with a 2.45 pound crappie which netted them a cool $700.00 for that 1 fish. Second place in the big fish contest was the team of David Sisson of Wingo, Kentucky with a 2.44 pound crappie and earning $$300.00.
Crappie USA Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$2,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela's Crappie USA Classic.

Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $270,000.00 to the "Crappie Kids" Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA "Kids Fishing Rodeos".
