Blankenship and Gnagy Win Cabela's King Kat at Lake Tawakoni

Cabela's King Kat Tournament Trail held a local qualifying event at the West Tawakoni City Park on Lake Tawakoni, Texas. Over 80 anglers from 8 different states were competing not only for the guaranteed minimum $5,000.00 payback in cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2010 Cabela's King Kat Classic to be held in October at a site to be announced.

Taking first place was the team of C.J. Blankenship of Topeka, Kansas and Ryan Gnagy of Tecumseh, Kansas with a total weight of 120.6 pounds and earning $3,000.00. C.J. and Ryan were fishing the southwest corner of the lake in 12-15 feet of water using large shad heads. The team caught a total of 5 fish for the day.

Second place went to Chris Taylor of Pocola, Oklahoma and Jesse Pantlick of Stigler, Oklahoma weighing in 109.95 pounds and earning $1,300.00. Chris and Jesse caught 6 fish during the day of competition using cut shad in 7 feet of water near the dam.

In third place was Jason Moore of Garland, Texas and Chase Gibson of Wylie, Texas with a weight of 106.65 pound and earning $550.00. Jason and Chase were catching most of their fish in 3.5 feet of water with 1 fish coming out of 47 feet on the southeast corner of the lake catching 6 fish on the day using cut shad.

Fourth place went to the Moody, Texas team of Roy Ewing and Jason and Dalton Cummings weighing in 104.15 pounds and earning $450.00. Roy, Jason and Dalton which is Jason's son were fishing the northwest part of the lake in 3 feet of water using cut shad. The 3 person team caught 5 fish throughout the day.

In fifth place was Paul Miles of Lake Dallas, Texas and Dan Miles of Irving, Texas with a total weight of 100.65 pounds and earning $300.00. Paul and Dan were fishing on the south end of the lake using cut shad in 20 feet of water catching 5 fish for the day. Paul and Dan only caught 4 fish today, but one was Big Fish of the event with a 53.45 pound Blue Cat and receiving $500.00 for Big Fish of the Event.

"We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the next Cabela's King Kat Event which will be held March 20th on the Pickwick/Wilson Lakes at Sheffield, Alabama", said Tanner.
