Ardent Outdoors to Expand and Create More Jobs

Gov. Jay Nixon visited Macon, MO to announce that a local manufacturer of fishing reels and equipment is expanding its operations and adding eight new jobs, thanks to economic incentives made possible by the state of Missouri.

Gov. Nixon's administration has awarded Ardent Outdoors $95,033 in Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ) incentives and $18,600 in Customized Training funds. These incentives will help the company finance a $3.2 million capital expansion that will create eight new local jobs.

The Governor made the announcement today at Ardent's manufacturing facility in Macon, where he was joined by company officials and community leaders.

"Fishing and outdoor recreation are an important part of our Missouri heritage, and quality companies like Ardent Outdoors keep that tradition alive," Gov. Nixon said. "It's great to be back in Macon today to recognize this growing company that is creating local jobs and expanding its operations. From the start, my administration has been focused on creating jobs and moving our economy forward, and I'm pleased that we were able to provide economic tools to help make this expansion possible. This significant investment by one of fishing's biggest names is clear evidence that Missouri's economy is on the move."

Ardent Outdoors is the leading designer and manufacturer of freshwater fishing reels, reel-care products and accessories. Located in Missouri since 2003, Ardent is the only manufacturer of freshwater casting and spinning reels made in the U.S.

As part of its expansion, Ardent Outdoors will purchase new equipment, including die-casting machinery, that will allow the company to bring the production of additional reel components in-house, cutting costs and time needed to manufacture the product.
