U.S. Anglers Choice Ban's Mike Hart In Aftermath of Won Bass U.S. Open

It is unfortunate that this topic has once again reared its ugly head in our sport. I think most had hoped that the Heigel incident in San Diego a few years back would have sent a strong message to all, but apparently that message will need to be sent again.

First and foremost, kudos to WON BASS for doing a thorough job of investigating and following through in this case. This is exactly the kind of policing that anglers expect from all organizations to keep our sport above the board. Likewise, their decision to go forward with prosecution is to be commended as cheating on any level cannot, should not, and will not be tolerated by organizations and anglers alike.

It is USAC's position that bass fishing is a gentleman's sport where honor, integrity, and stewardship of the resource should be first and foremost. As such, all organizations should stand united to protect our sport when transgressions such as those alleged occur.

Based upon the allegations, investigation, and evidence seized as posted by Bill Egan, WON BASS Director and Mike Hart's subsequent admission to the acts in question to tournament authorities, U.S. Anglers Choice will be taking the action of permanently banning Mike Hart from all future events conducted under the U.S. Anglers Choice banner.

Should any details in the subsequent investigation prove Mike Hart to be innocent of the allegations described in Bill Egan's detailed post, USAC may at its discretion, opt to reinstate Mike Hart.

Any questions regarding this decision may be directed to me at (760) 304-4411.

Bill Hutcheson
USAC Director of Operations
