Anglers can share fishing tips, locate hot spots where lunkers are biting and post Web photos of their catches through a unique new iPhone application that is aimed at creating a global online fishing community.
Started by two avid fishermen in Silicon Valley, Good-Fish.com combines both the iPhone app and BiteMapa website. These enable recreational anglers, fishing guides and tournament competitors to create a personal profile and post their catches to a database that can be referenced by other anglers. The various posts include a photo, GPS location, and the type of lure or bait used. Until August 1, the iPhone app can be downloaded for free.
Using an iPhone as both a camera and a GPS location, the application allows users to instantly add catches to their Good Fish profile. The site includes a Bite Map that pinpoints the GPS coordinates of each individual catch. Anglers can refine their search of the Good Fish database to target specific interests, and the searches can be refined to specify location, species and fishing style.
"We set out to create a simple way to access basic knowledge from fellow anglers who have been landing fish," explains co-founder Frank Ramirez. A fisherman planning a trip can easily explore new destinations with a quick search on Good Fish that specifies the location and species of interest. The website will pull up a map showing all catches posted by fellow anglers and guides in your search area.
Moreover, anglers and professional guides can create custom profiles including a bio to store their catches and reports.
"I've been looking for web site that allows our anglers to access information on pre tournament List of Catchescatches in an interactive environment," said Vince Harris, President of the Future Pro Bass Tour. He says his organization plans to use the Good Fish app and website to promote "Pre-Fish" catches beginning with it's August 14th Clear Lake event.
Good Fish also has an element of competition. Good Fish Awards are added to profiles regularly to recognize outstanding anglers, professionals, and catches. Some of these awards include promotional prizes to encourage users to "out-post" their follow anglers. "We are confident that as anglers and professionals share their successes the site will grow into a great resource. We plan to make that process fun and rewarding for our users" adds co-founder Mike O'Shea.
Features on the web site include:
* Search map to explore what is biting in a specific location
* A leader board for top anglers
* Your user profile including your fishing bio, catches, and reports
* Ability to comment on catches and interact with fellow anglers and guides
* Ability to publish on Twitter and Facebook
* Bait rankings specific to you search parameters
