Gene Larew ICAST Sneak Peak

It seems rather ironic that on the very same day in Oklahoma recently, pro angler Tommy Biffle was catching 'em in a BASS Elite event on Ft. Gibson Lake on one end of the Grand River, while fishing guide Ivan Martin was catching them a little farther up the river system at Grand Lake of the Cherokees. Unbeknown to each, both were employing similar tactics, but using different baits and tackle. Yet each had a Larew prototype on the end of his line.

Biffle was using his signature Biffle Bug (in a yet-to-be-released color), and rigging it on a new football-head weight fitted with a heavy-duty 4/0 worm hook that moves freely with the bait's action. It was a combo he had been playing with for the previous few weeks, reeling the bait like a crankbait. He entered the tournament on a confidence high with the rig. His win was proof.

Martin was reeling his rig, too, but using a heavy sinking-style worm rigged on a shaky head and fished on spinning gear. It's a technique he's been refining over the last three or four years. He says it's the perfect guide rig, one that any client in his boat, old or young, can use to catch bass. On this particular outing, he was fishing with Larew's Chris Lindenberg and George Toalson; they had brought the first new baits designed specifically for this type of fishing - the Salt Flick'R - along for the worm's maiden voyage. During three hours of fishing in the middle of the steamy June afternoon, the trio landed nearly 40 bass, the majority of which were keepers up to 4 pounds.

Both the Biffle HardHead and the Larew Salt Flick'R are part of the Larew new products being shown next week at ICAST. Also joining them is the new, smaller sized Biffle-O Lizard Jr., measuring in at around 6.5 inches. It features the patented Biffle-O tail that never stops dancing. All are must-see items at ICAST.
