Cabela's King Kat Tournament Trail held a local qualifying event at the Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park on the Monongahela River at Morgantown, West Virginia.
These anglers from 6 different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2010 Cabela's King Kat Classic to be held November 12th & 13th on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway at Columbus, Mississippi.
Top 5 Teams Results
Taking first place and earning $2,500.00 was the Jackson, Ohio team of Criss and Phyliss Sexton with a total weight of 31.65 pounds. Criss and Phyliss were fishing in 15 feet of water near Morgantown using cut shad. The team caught 4 fish for the day including a 13 pound channel cat which was big fish of the day earning the team an additional $500.00.
In second place was the McArthur, Ohio team of James and Janet Fox weighing in 17.75 pounds and earning them $1,500.00. James and Janet were fishing the Morgantown pool in 18 feet of water using small cut skipjack. The Fox team also earned the $100.00 Monster Rod Holder bonus. The Fox team is the first team to qualify and win the Monster Rod Holder bonus.
Third place went to the Mason, West Virginia team Jason Anderson and Keith Sayre weighing in 14.95 pounds and earning $500.00. Jason and Keith were fishing both the Morgantown pool and the next pool up river targeting fish in 12-15 feet of water using cut skipjack.
Donald Moore III and Alissa Stark of Louisian, Missouri took fourth place with a weight of 11.95 pounds and earning a new 55 pound thrust Minn Kota trolling motor. Donald and Alissa were fishing near the power plant in 10-15 feet of water using cut skipjack.
Finishing out the top 5 was the fifth place team of John Renner and Rick Lucas of Granville, West Virginia with a weight of 10.1 pounds.
The Cabela's King Kat Kids Fishing Rodeo was also a great success with 105 children entered in the free event. The fishing was tough for the anglers in the tournament, but the children had no problem catching fish with 3 children catching over 100 fish each in the 2 hour event. Each child is also signed up for the Kids Scholarship program where each year 6 children from across the nation are awarded a $2,000.00 scholarship. In the past couple of years 2 children from the Morgantown event have been awarded scholarships out of all the children entered from across the country. Joe McGurn from the Wheeling, West Virginia Cabela's store was on hand giving away rod and reels provided by Cabela's.
