Sticking with soft plastics, Nick Prvonozac won the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, New York West Division 22 tournament, held June 19, 2010, on Chautauqua Lake.
The Warren, Ohio, angler landed a five-bass bag weighing 19.15 pounds to collect $2,456 for winning the Boater Division. Launching out of Long Point State Park into the 13,000-acre lake, he caught about 16 fish total with one 4.71-pounder anchoring the bag.
"I hit some shallow water in the morning and then moved deeper as the day progressed," Prvonozac said. "For the shallow pattern, I hit a few docks, rock piles and weed lines. We got into a small group of fish at about noon and caught several good ones off a weed line. I used a variety of Yum soft plastics, mostly in green pumpkin, black and blue or watermelon."
Randy Dustin of Jamestown , N.Y., took second with a five-bass tournament limit weighing 17.44 pounds with one 4.23-pounder. In third among the 53 boaters, Noah Raymond of Lockport, N.Y., finished with five bass for 17.06 pounds, followed closely by Tim Gavek of Sayre, Pa., with five bass for 17.05 pounds. Richard Stephens of Rochester, N.Y., caught five bass for 16.76 pounds, but went home with boater big bass honors for his 4.74-pound bucketmouth.
For the Co-Anglers, Darren Potts of East Hickory, Pa., won the division with three bass at 8.12 pounds. Catching a total of eight keepers, his largest weighed 3.08 pounds.
"I fished shallow, looking for spawning fish," Potts said. "I fished a weightless green pumpkin Mizmo tube around weeds. I just let it fall slowly."
In second, Jeffrey Edwards of Elmira, N.Y., landed a three-bass tournament limit for 7.98 pounds with a 3.51-pound kicker. Andrew Heivley of Malvern, Pa., landed in third among the non-boaters with three bass going 7.77 pounds. One of his fish, a 4.76-pounder, took tournament lunker bragging rights.
