Kyle Dorsett Wins Bassmaster Weekend Series at Lake Logan Martin

Kyle Dorsett won a tight contest during the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, South Alabama Division 2 tournament, held June 19, 2010, on Lake Logan Martin.

Running out of Lakeside Park Marina in Pell City, Dorsett of Odenville pulled a five-bass bag from the 17,000-acre lake to win the Boater Division with 16.84 pounds. Catching a total of nine keepers, he anchored his catch with a 4.23-pounder and earned $3,437.

"I caught most of my fish in deep brush in the mid-lake region," the champ explained. "I caught some fish on a jig and some on Texas rigs."

Kelley Jaye of Dadeville landed a five bass tournament limit weighing 16.72 pounds with a 5.22-pound kicker to win $1,719 and second place. In third among the 95 boaters, Josh Stracner of Vandiver caught five bass going 16.12 pounds with one 4.68-pounder to pocket $1,146.

"I caught all my fish on a white crankbait or a black jig," Stracner said. "I fished the lower end of the lake."

Chris Dill of Hueytown finished fourth with 15.52 pounds. He actually caught five bass going 16.02 pounds, but a penalty knocked him back eight ounces. Coby Carden of Calera, the 2009 winner on Logan Martin, took fifth place with a five bass at 15.48 pounds, including one 5.26-pounder. Robert Comalander of Fairhope captured the tournament lunker title with a 5.72-pounder.

Brian Harbison of McCalla won the Co-Anglers Division and $1,761 with three bass for 10.45 pounds. His biggest bass weighed 3.86 pounds. He fished mostly deep brush and docks.

"I caught fish on about everything I threw," Harbison said. "I caught one on a jig, one on a shaky head and one on a buzzbait. I also caught fish on Texas rigs and Carolina rigs. I caught one fish later in the day, but most of the bass came early in the morning."

Mike Calloway of Birmingham landed in second with a three-bass division limit weighing 9.99 pounds. He caught his fish by throwing green pumpkin jigs around docks in the mid-lake region. In third for the non-boaters, Bill Smith of Ocean Springs, Miss., used jigs around docks to catch three bass going 9.97 pounds, including a 3.53-pound kicker.

Herbert Hoff of Prattville took fourth with three bass at 9.63 pounds with one 4.29-pounder. Rounding out the top five co-anglers, Doyce Colvin, ll, of Opp caught three bass for 9.38 pounds with one 3.90-pounder. Scott Parrott of Northport won division big bass bragging rights with a 5.15-pound bucketmouth.
