Sperry Top-Sider Returns as BoatU.S. Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship Series Sponsor and Celebrates 75th Anniversary

Careco Multimedia announced today that Sperry Top-Sider will return as the official footwear and exclusive footwear provider of the 2010 BoatU.S. Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship Series.

"As a valued, long term partner of the BoatU.S. Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship Series, Sperry Top-Sider continues to contribute greatly to the growth of collegiate bass fishing and the development of the next generation of anglers", said Wade Middleton, Tournament Director. "We're excited and honored to share in the company's 75th anniversary celebration."

Sperry Top-Sider, the company that invented the boat shoe in 1935 and has become an enduring symbol of a "passion for the sea" for millions across the globe, celebrates its 75th Anniversary in 2010. The company will mark its Diamond Jubilee with numerous events and celebrations, exciting sponsorships and the launch of its limited edition 75th Anniversary Collection.

The brand was born on a cold winter's day on the water's edge in Connecticut, inspired by an unlikely source: a Cocker Spaniel named Prince.

On that day, avid sailor and amateur inventor Paul Sperry was awed by his dog's ability to run on slick water and ice without slipping. Ever the innovator (Sperry held several patents including one for one of the world's first wooden duck decoys) Sperry examined the dog's paw to find hundreds of tiny grooves and cuts going in all directions. This wave-like pattern became the inspiration for Mr. Sperry's latest patent, called Razor-SipingTM, and were instrumental in maximizing the traction and performance of what became the world's first boat shoe.

That same model, now known as the "Authentic Original" remains a Sperry Top-Sider bestseller and staple in the brand's collection. And since that time, the brand has expanded well into highly technical shoes for sailing, boating and fishing, as well as many, many styles inspired by the love and passion for the sea.

"With so much change in the last 75 years, Paul Sperry's original boat shoe has become an icon of enduring style, and a true American original," said Craig Reingold, president, Sperry Top-Sider. "From this original inspiration, Sperry Top-Sider continues to define nautical style in a way that is both timeless and modern."

"Sperry Top-Sider has been creating footwear for people with a passion for the sea and water since 1935, and our brand has become a go-to choice for anglers across the country", said Craig Reingold, President, Sperry Top-Sider. "As the official footwear of the 2010 BoatU.S. Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship Series, Sperry Top-Sider is proud to support the efforts of the collegiate anglers and the future of collegiate bass fishing in the US."
