Mike McClelland gets "Hefty" at the Classic

Mike McClelland unveiled a new boat and truck wrap at the Classic that features Hefty OneZip. It initially led to a lot of questions, since it seemed to come out of nowhere. When asked about the deal and he said it was a Classic-only sponsorship.

That marks the second time McClelland signed a high-profile, short-term deal. The first was back in June 2008, when he ran a Tahoe Smokeless wrap for the Kentucky Lake Elite Series event. Tahoe wanted to target-market that geographic region, so it made sense for them to do a short-term package with McClelland. The Tahoe deal was actually extended by one event when BASS canceled the Mississippi River and moved the field to Old Hickory.

"I signed a little deal with Hefty for the Classic and I'm promoting their OneZip product and we're working toward trying to get something together for the rest of the year."

When asked about his strategy of signing short-term contracts, he noted: "I figure it's a good way to give them a taste of what it's all about. I seem to have figured out how to put some deals together. It may not be long-term initially, but it's with the attempt to make it that way. Hopefully a deal will come together."
