Applegate tops Arkie Division event

Boater Huey Applegate of Jessieville, Ark., caught a five-bass limit weighing 14 pounds, 12 ounces Saturday to win $4,575 in the BFL Arkie Division tournament on Lake Ouachita.

Dennis Bean of Hot Springs, Ark., weighed five bass for 13-6 to take second place and $2,288 in the Boater Division; in third was Michael Morton of McCaskill, Ark., four bass, 12-14, $1,525; fourth place belonged to Sheril Middleton of Batesville, Ark., three bass, 12-10, $1,068; and Kevin Brown of Malvern, Ark., placed fifth with four bass, 12-7, $915.

Rounding out the top 10 boaters in the BFL Arkie event on Lake Ouachita:

In the Co-angler Division, Evan Webster of Bryant, Ark., caught four fish weighing 11 pounds, 1 ounce to win $2,179.

Coming up

The next BFL Arkie Division tournament is scheduled for March 27 at DeGray Lake in Arkadelphia, Ark. The top 50 anglers and 50 co-anglers from each of the five division tournaments will qualify for the Arkie regional Oct. 14-16 at Lake Texoma in Denison, Texas, for a chance to win a 198VX Ranger boat with a 200-horsepower engine and a Chevy pick-up, respectively.
